Midigama Surfing — Lazy Left, Rams, Plantations

Midigama is the reef-break capital of the southwest. Three named waves within a 15-minute walk — Lazy Left (a mellow left-hander ideal for progressing surfers), Rams Right (a punchy right barrel for experienced surfers), and Plantations (a long, fun right at the western end).

Season: November to April. Lazy Left holds smaller swells; Rams needs head-high-plus to work properly.

Where to stay: Small surf camps and guesthouses between the train tracks and the beach. Low-key compared to Weligama; you're here for waves.

Getting there from CMB: Fixed-price taxi from Bandaranaike is £48 and takes around 2.5 hours. Midigama has a train station on the coastal line, but with a board, the door-to-door taxi is much easier.
